Message from the Head of School

WELCOME TO THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MARITIME TRAINING.

My name is Leitufiaoatua Fatu Lafoa’i, Head of School of the National University (NUS) School of Maritime Training (SOMT). NUS/SOMT is the only Maritime Training provider in Samoa. All programmes that are currently offering by the School of Maritime Training were accredited by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2002, on the terms and conditions of the IMO Convention on the Standards of Trainings, Certification for Watch-keepers and Seafarers 1978 with the 1995 amendments, and they are audited in a five years cycle by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) Transport Division and the local administration Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure (MWTI) Maritime Division. It is imperative to ensure the continuous compliance with the terms and conditions of the STCW Convention 1978 with amendments, for the recognition of our Seafarers Nationally, Regionally and Internationally.

We are looking forward to have you here at our NUS/Maritime Campus at Mulinu’u Penninsula in 2025. In order to enter the SOMT programmes, on the basis of raw marks in the SSLC exams or equivalent, at least140% aggregate total in English and best three subjects with at least a 30% in English.

If you wish to travel around the world, NUS School of Maritime Training is the right place to enter.
