National University of Samoa Scholarships by the Chinese Embassy, Samoa

The NUS and Chinese Embassy of Samoa signed a MOU in March 2022, where both parties desired to enter an understanding to meet the following education sector goals:

  • Enhanced quality of education at all levels
  • Enhanced relevance of education and training at all levels
  • Improved sector coordination of research, policy and planning development, and
  • Establish sustainable and efficient management of all education resources

The mission of this MOU is to provide scholarships to motivate students including those students with financial difficulties, who gain outstanding achievement academically as well as in extracurricular areas.

Target groups for scholarships:

  • All Bachelor students; and
  • All Masters programme students

Duration and Number of grantees:

  • For the 2022 academic year being comprised of two (2) Semesters commencing in January 2022 and concluding in December 2022; and
  • Twenty (20) students for each Semester, forty (40) in total for 2022.

Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship A – Academic Scholarship

Designed to recognize students’ outstanding achievements, academically, as well as in extracurricular areas.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants shall demonstrate merit by being within the top twenty-five (25%) of students in their academic discipline and be outstanding in their academic achievements, social practice, innovative ability, comprehensive quality; and 
  • Applicants shall not have failed any modules; and  
  • Applicants with experience in activities organized by Confucius Institute or Chinese Embassy in Samoa will be preferred.

Funding standards:

  • First class scholarship: 2 students each semester, 2000 tala per person,
  • Second class scholarship: 3 students each semester, 1000 tala per person and
  • Third class scholarship: 5 students each semester, 500 tala per person.

Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship B – Encourage Scholarship

Encourage Scholarship aims to motivate students with financial difficulties, who got outstanding achievements academically as well as in extracurricular areas.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants shall be outstanding in their academic achievements, social practice, innovative ability, comprehensive quality; and
  • Applicants shall have verifiable financial need or be recognized as vulnerable students by the National University of Samoa; and
  • Applicants shall not have failed any modules; and  
  • Applicants with experience in activities organized by Confucius Institute at the National University of Samoa University or Chinese Embassy in Samoa will be preferred.

Funding standards:

  • First class scholarship: 2 students each semester, 2000 tala per person
  • Second class scholarship: 3 students each semester, 1000 tala per person
  • Third class scholarship: 5 students each semester, 500 tala per person

COMMONWEALTH OF LEARNING SKILLS FOR WORK SCHOLARSHIPS

The National University of Samoa invite eligible Samoan citizens to apply for the third cohort of learners for the Commonwealth of Learning – Skills for Work scholarships to acquire skills to gain employment, work, and livelihood.  The scholarships programs will begin in June and will be valid for a duration of 6 months.

We invite all citizens to apply especially youth, adults, and person with disabilities. 

Commonwealth of Learning (COL) will offer 150 six -month scholarships for three different programmes under the Skills for Work Program:

Offering 50 scholarships EACH for:

  • COL-Grow with Google Skills for Work
  • COL-Coursera Skills for Work
  • COL-Udemy Skills for Work

ALL  COURSES IN THESE 3 PROGRAMMES ARE OFFERED ONLINE AND APPLICANTS WILL REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING:

  • A tablet or laptop or pc
  • Reliable Internet access
  • Good command of English as all courses are in English
