National University of Samoa (NUS) Signs Consulting Agreement with Consortium of Japanese Companies

Apia, Samoa – Monday 22nd April, 2024

The National University of Samoa (NUS) has taken a monumental step towards the improvement of its Faculty of Health Science Facilities with the signing of a consulting agreement with a prestigious Consortium comprised of Yamashita Sekkei Inc, Fukunaga Architects-Engineers, and Binko International Ltd. This Consortium will provide essential consulting services as part of the Project for the Improvement of Facilities at the Faculty of Health Science.

The signing ceremony, held at the NUS Le Papaigalagala Campus marked the partnership of the NUS and the Consortium for collaboration on this transformative project which has received financial support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The agreement was signed by Professor Tuifuisa’a Patila Malua Amosa, Vice Chancellor and President of NUS, and Chief Consultant Mr. Shingo Kuroda from Yamashita Sekkei Inc. The project is set to be completed by the 29th of February 2028.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Consortium will carry out various services including design preparation, bidding procedures, construction supervision, equipment procurement, and its operation training, and maintenance support for the project. The project aim is to enhance the facilities at the Faculty of Health Science and contribute to the advancement of healthcare education in Samoa. This project will also have an entire floor dedicated to library space to cater to the growing student population requiring study spaces.

In a joint statement, Professor Tuifuisa’a and Mr. Shingo Kuroda expressed their excitement about the collaboration and their commitment to delivering a successful project that will benefit the university and the wider community. The signing of this agreement also marks a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between Samoa and Japan in the field of education and infrastructure development.

Professor Tuifuisa’a stated, “We look forward to the successful implementation of this project and the positive impact it will have on the Faculty of Health Science at the National University of Samoa.”
