N.U.S in partnership with P.S.C Launches Samoa-Australia Partnership for Postgraduate Programme on Executive Leadership

Apia, Samoa Wednesday 15th of March, 2024.

The National University of Samoa, in collaboration with the Public Service Commission as well as the Government of Australia, is pleased to announce the official launch of the Samoa-Australia Partnership for the Postgraduate Programme on Executive Leadership which held this week on Monday 11th of March, 2024. This programme, is delivered by the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship, which aims to enhance the leadership capabilities and strategic focus for senior executives in the public service.

The launch ceremony, held at the National University of Samoa Fale Samoa, was attended by Hon. Prime Minister, Afioga Fiame Naomi Mataafa, and His Excellency, William Robinson,

Australian High Commissioner among other distinguished guests. In her remarks, Hon. Prime Minister Mataafa emphasized the importance of leadership in governance and shaping the future of Samoa. She encouraged participants to make the most of this opportunity to strengthen their skills and knowledge in executive leadership.

H.E William Robinson highlighted Australia’s commitment to supporting Samoa’s national priorities through locally led development initiatives. The Postgraduate Certificate in Executive Leadership is part of a broader Governance and Leadership Workforce Planning initiative under the Tautai partnership, aimed at building a skilled workforce and empowering people in Samoa.

The programme will provide postgraduate training for 48 government and non-government officials, with the support of the DFAT-Tautai Programme. The total cost of the programme is

$120,000 Samoan Tala, demonstrating Australia’s commitment to fostering authentic and respectful partnerships with Samoa.

This partnership underscores the importance of investing in local institutions such as the National University of Samoa and enhancing leadership capacity across the public, private, and civil society sectors. The initiative aligns with Samoa’s national priorities, focusing on improved accountability, people empowerment, and building a skilled workforce.
