Welcome to the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship (FOBE). We are committed to providing a globally recognized platform in the pursuit of teaching, learning, research and community outreach in the areas of tourism and hospitality, general business, office management, accounting, banking and finance, commercial law, economics, management and marketing. FOBE is comprised of two Departments; the Department of Accounting and Economics which is Headed by Muliagatele Sesilia Lauano and the Department of Management, Tourism and Hospitality which is Headed by Tapu Iemaima Gabriel.
We at the Faculty aspire to offer both our freshmen and mature students an environment that is pleasant, supportive and collaborative leading to an enriched learning experience.We aim to provide quality teaching and learning and supplement research, industry insights and practical as part of class interactions to enhance the students’ learning process. We also intend to work with students in preparing them for active citizenship, employment and further education and in ensuring that the Graduate Attributes of the National University of Samoa (NUS) are developed and enhanced.The 24th of August, 2020 marked a significant milestone for the Faculty via the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the National University of Samoa and the Samoa Institute of Accountants (SIA).This signified the close collaboration amid SIA and the Faculty staff towards teaching and learning enhancements.The aim is to augment the quality and standards of the BCom Accounting programme.The 22nd of September, 2020 also marked a significant achievement for FOBE and the National University of Samoa as the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed between the Samoan Tourism Authority (STA) and the NUS to deliver the Introduction to Hospitality Training.In October, 2020 the Samoa Recycling and Waste Management Association (SRWMA) and the NUS also signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the successful sustainment and marketing of segregated waste management practices within the NUS and the community. FOBE’s research also forms an important part of our curriculum. Our research is extremely valuable, its significance in the economic development of our island nations is evident, and it is very relevant in the context of the National Development Plans and the NUS Strategic Priorities. We have a dynamic and diverse team that is highly qualified and has exposure to national, regional and international work contexts. We as a team are looking forward in facilitating an engaged and active learning environment. We hope in further improving service delivery for our students. We anticipate that our students will be satisfied and delighted by our services and we look forward to building a good relationship to achieve heightened levels of student satisfaction.
Now, if you are joining the Faculty for the first time as a Foundation or TVET student, I and my team would like to extend our heartiest congratulations and at the same time wish you all the very best. If you are joining as a mature entrant, we wish to extend our warm welcome. We also value your expertise. For our returning students, welcome back. The Student Handbook is an imperative part of “Student Life” as it contains significant information such as particulars on the courses that you may need to undertake as part of your programme, the structure of your programme of study, the staff at FOBE, and key persons to seek clarification from regarding your programme of study. We sincerely hope that you find the information presented in the handbook clear, precise and valuable.
