FOE Programmes aim to integrate professional knowledge, professional practice and professional attributes with cultural competencies in the Samoa context (PD of all programmes section 7). Brief course prescriptions are provided in the annual NUS Calendar under the Faculty of Education (NUS Calendar, 2021, pgs., 149-168).
Due to the nature of the programmes offered here at the university, the language of instruction is predominantly English. Samoan will be used only in discussions. Any international students who wish to enrol in any of these programmes; must have a strong command of the English language in reading and writing. International students will be advised to enrol in a language course HSA001 Samoan as a Second Language before enrolling in any of the programmes. The course will provide the international students the knowledge and skills to communicate with the lectures and Samoan students in their programme as well can adapt into Samoan society.
Foundation Certificate in Education (FCE)
This is a one year programme that is offered to students with SSLC qualification. It provides the necessary knowledge base for advancing on to Bachelor of Education (ECE, Primary).
Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education (ECE)
The Bachelor of Education in ECE focuses on child-centred knowledge and pedagogical skills of prospective teachers for early childhood education in Samoa. The programme strengthens its alignment to the curriculum documents provided by the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture (MESC).
Bachelor of Education (Primary)
The programme appraises the content knowledge and pedagogical skills of prospective teachers for primary schools in the education system (years 1-8) in Samoa. This programme consists of 24 courses for students who wish to become primary school teachers. This programme aligns with the curriculum documents provided by MESC.

Master of Education

Postgraduate Diploma in Education
The Postgraduate Diploma in Education programme is designed to provide the learners with numerous opportunities, professionally and in voluntary positions in education settings. It provides the learners with the skills and pedagogical knowledge to extend their research capacity, understanding of teaching, learning and assessment practices as well as mentoring approaches. Graduate Diploma in Education
The Graduate Diploma in Education programme is designed to gain the professional knowledge, skills and qualifications to teach at primary or secondary schools. The Graduate Diploma in Education is a one-year professional pre-service qualification that enables undergraduate degree holders from other disciplines to become knowledgeable, skilled and reflective teachers for primary and secondary schools. It provides certification and qualification in teaching.
Other Information (info for graduates when complete FOE)
FOE ensures that the students in all programmes complete the requirements in order to graduate. All graduates with B.Ed will need to provide MESC with confirmation of programme completion so that they can be posted to either an ECE or a Primary school.
