Purpose

  • The Counselling Service offers an opportunity to students to openly talk to someone, and share their problems in a private atmosphere.
  • To assist students cope with academic and social problems that impact on  his or her life and studies

What Counselling  Provides:

 

  • A one to one or group discussions with the Student Counsellor to assist students cope with social and academic problems that affect their studies.
  • A Confidential and private discussion
  • Assistance through counselling to empower students make their own choices 
  • Assistance to students in making positive changes in their lives
  • Assistance to students access relevant information for academic purposes
  • An avenue for students to seek counselling support whenever needed FREE of charge
  • Services to students that cater for their general well being
  • Basic medication for students or referral to other professional services when necessary

 

Why Do Students seek Counselling?

 

  • There are numerous reasons why students seek counselling including;
  • Academic problems (Assignment; Career choices etc)
  • Grief
  • Relationships (Family, Peers, Partnership)
  • Alcohol related problems
  • Stress
  • Basic Medication
  • The Counselling Service assists you the student in the decision making process ensuring that you will get the best results to cater for  your Personal & Academic Needs.
  • Students can contact the Student Counsellor’s Office on his or her own free will or through referral from NUS Staff members.

 

Counselling is NOT

 

  • Judgmental
  • About the Student Counsellor telling the student what to do
  • Obtaining information that is irrelevant to the students issue.
