Talofa Lava and Welcome,
The National University of Samoa has grown from its humble beginnings in February 1984 to an internationally recognized institution of higher learning. Having recently celebrated its 25th anniversary in February 2009, the University now caters for approximately 2,000 students brimming with great potential and possibilities. Comprised mostly of local students we also cater for international students through offerings of over 60 academic, technical and vocational programmes from the certificate to the diploma, bachelor and postgraduate levels including the world first Master of Samoan Studies. These programmes are supported by NUS through the Institute of Technology, the Institute of Higher Education, the Center for Samoan Studies and the Oloamanu Centre for Professional Development. I am proud and impressed with the contribution made by all staff, nearing 300 in numbers, at all levels. It is through their collaborative efforts that we have developed and continue to progress in realising the University’s goals and objectives in not only Teaching and Learning but Research and Consultancy. Through their diligence and pursuit of excellence for the benefit of our Institutional Development we continue to nurture and bolster our relationship links with Business, Government and the Community we serve. Internationally, we have also forged relationships with various Universities which support different staff, student and resource exchange programmes which has proved very successful in enhancing the learning experience and process. Reciprocally, we have also hosted staff and students from these Universities with many appreciating the peaceful environment NUS offers. With tranquil views of the sea, first class facilities built by the Government of Japan, the National University is also home to the largest Fale Samoa in the world, located at the heart of the campus and the university ethos. On behalf of the National University of the proud and Independent island nation of Samoa, we welcome you to peruse our online pages in the hope that you discover the information you seek and we look forward to the opportunity to engage you in the unique teaching and learning culture and prospects we have to offer.
