NEW EXECUTIVE SECRETARY FOR NUS APPOINTED PDF Print E-mail

The National University of Samoa has a new executive secretary. She is Ms Mandria Angelic Natalie Sua, who replaces  Ms Phaedra Moors who served in the position for the last several years.

 

Ms Sua comes to NUS from the Planning and Urban Management Agency (PUMA) of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

 

In her previous job, Ms Sua assisted in the preparation of plans and policies on land use and development matters at the village, district, national and development site level.

 

The work involved extensive communication with the village people, community groups, government departments and relevant referral authorities as to their land use and development needs, concerns and aspirations.

FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP HIGHLIGHTS DISCUSSIONS WITH U.S. AMBASSADOR, DAVID HUEBNER PDF Print E-mail

The awarding of Fulbright  scholarships was discussed during the visit by the new United States Ambassador, His Excellency Mr David Huebner, to the National University of Samoa on Friday, 26 February.

 

Mr Huebner said he had learnt that Samoa was not among the countries that was eligible for the American  award but that he would now do everything in his power to change that.

 

Individual Fulbright grants are available for scholars from selected countries to conduct research, lecture or pursue combined lecturing and research in the United States. Each year, over 800 faculty and professionals from over 150 countries around the world receive such grants.

OCEANIA ANTHROPOLOGY CONFERENCE GOES AHEAD DESPITE HEAVY SNOW FALLS ON U.S. EAST COAST PDF Print E-mail

Record snowfalls on the United States northeast coast did not prevent Associate Professor Unasa L.F. Vaa from attending the annual conference of the Association for Social Anthropology in Oceania(ASAO)  held in Alexandria, Virginia, from 10 to 14 February.

 

“There were massive cancellations of air flights to the east coast of the United States during that period, but I was lucky in that I was rerouted to San Francisco for a midnight flight to Washington D.C., Dulles international airport.  This United Airlines flight was probably the first into DC since the flight cancellations,” Unasa said.

 

Many activiteIs were closed on the east coast during that week, including sessions of Congress, but fortunately the conference went ahead despite the below zero weather caused by blankets of  snow and ice, and the reduced number of participants.
